The herbs in this tea are chosen for their contribution to maintaining healthy bones, connective tissue, and aid in nutrient absorption.
Nettle contains nutrients such as silica, magnesium, manganese, calcium, and some iron. Silica is vital in maintaining bone growth and connective tissue strength. It is known to contain vitamins A & K, carotenoids, and some B vitamins.
Horsetail is another silica containing herb to maintain connective tissues and bones. It also contains minerals such as magnesium, selenium, calcium, & manganese to name a few. It also helps with bladder conditions and can help urinary flow.
Red Clover is isoflavone rich meaning it has oestrogenic qualities. Great, what does that mean? It helps to maintain bone health and is a friend to the post-menopause woman.
Oats, the green flowering tops, are included for their nutritional component, their calming effect, and their cardiovascular support. Because this is the flowering tops there is a slight chance of gluten being present. Caution with Coeliac disease, please.
Liquorice is included for its oestrogenic effect, its soothing of the gut, and for a bit of sweetness.
Rosehips & Elderberries provide much needed vitamin C and antioxidants.
The Nerd has seen many a person in clinic who is living with osteopaenia or osteoporosis. It is not a result from lacking calcium and easily fixed with a calcium supplement. It is a multi-factorial condition. While this herbal tea can help with bone health, it is imperative that other things happen to maintain overall bone health. It is too complex and individual to apply blanket advice.
However, being a nerd, here are a few blanket suggestions:
At minimum attend to stress levels.
Eliminate sugar & fizzy drinks
(whether they have artificial sweeteners or not.)
Gentle exercise, like yoga, before it's too late.
Change your sleeping arrangements if you do not get a decent night's sleep. An absolute must.
Try combining this tea with a daily supplement of D'em Bones Tonic, by the nerd. It is a combination of tinctures used in clinic to help bones do what they do best. Glossy Privet, which helps bones maintain density while gently encouraging osteoclasts to slow down. Wild Yam for that oestrogenic effect. And Hops, just to make it taste terrible, but to also provide oestrogenic effects.
Caution please with gluten allergies due to Green Oats flowers.
Caution with enuresis due to Horsetail. Drink well before bedtime.
